When Bjørn Otto Bragstad of Rosenborg equalised Starts 1-0 lead in
Trondheim three minutes from time he also deceided the championship.
Viking from Stavanger are Norwegian Champions 1991 ,and for the eigth time
in all. This was however their first gold since 1982. The success is mainly
due to their Swedish manager, Benny Lennartsson, who lifted the club
from heavy debts and the second division in 1988 to the Cupfinal in 1989 and
now this title. He now leaves his job in viking but continues as coach for
the Norwegian U21-national team which has a good possibility to reach the
Olympic Games in Barcelona next year. The title was not won in great style
tough. On Sunday they lost very deservedly 3-4 to Lyn which finally managed to
put away at least some of their numerous chances. It was a sweet revenge for
Tom Fodstad ,Lyns topscorer last season, who hasn't been able to catch a
regular place in the first team this season. He became the first player this
season to score 4 goals in a match including a hat-trick (a real one too !!!)
in the space of ten minutes. Lyn are still in with a chance to play in Europe
next term, as are Rosenborg ,Start and Tromsø too. Only two points
separates the four teams two games from the end.
At the botton things look bad for the city of Bergen. Fyllingen almost
ruled out after last round surprised everybody and beat the local rivals Brann
2-0 to climb off the bottom of the table. This defeat leaves Brann in a very
difficult position yet again. They are one of Norways most supported teams
and from Norways second largest city, yet they are unable to establish
themseles in the premier league. It has been like this for the last decade
or so.
Strømsgodset are also in danger of relegation after a narrow defeat
against Tromsø. On Wednesday they play a very vital game at home to
Lillestrøm which was postponed last round. Elsewhere Sogndal look like
having secured the place for another season after beating KIL. The same goes
for Lillestrøm after defeating Molde by a goal to nil.
