Champions Cup, first round, first leg: Rosenborg - Austria Wien (Austria) 3-1 (3-1) Lerkendal Att: 9619 1-0 Rune Tangen (pen. 29) 1-1 Manfred Zsak (pen. 33) 2-1 Øyvind Leonhardsen (35) 3-1 Karl-Petter Løken (42) - An impressive display at home by Rosenborg. The only disappointment was the scoreline. They really should have won by a bigger margin after creating several good chances in both halves and even missing a second penalty after the break. Let's hope they can continue in two weeks time in Austria. Cup Winners Cup, first round, first leg: Lillestrøm - Torino (Italy) 0-2 (0-1) Ullevaal stadion Att: 5056 0-1 Andrea Silenzi (26) 0-2 Robert Jarni (58) - I was in the crowd since the game was played at Ullevaal and not in Lillestrøm. (Which in the end proved unnessecary, since only 5k showed up :-( ) I'll describe the Torino performance with the words: effective, solid and cynical. Effective, because out of a total of only 4-5 chances (Lillestrøm had equally many) they managed 2 goals and one disallowed for offside. Solid, because they were technically superior and did exactly what was needed to win but nothing more. Cynical, because (as expected) we witnessed the usual diving, time waisting and acting of 'the dying swan' whenever a Lillestrøm player touched them. Really annoying (it happened on at least ten occasions) and a pity for a side who clearly was the better footballing side. Don't understand why especially Latin clubs (no offense intended :-) ) use these tactics time after time. Completely unnessecary, especially when you are supereior on the field. UEFA Cup, first round, first leg: Öster (Sweden) - Kongsvinger 1-3 (1-1) Värensvallen Att: 1950 0-1 Arnfinn Engerbakk (33) 1-1 Nicklas Persson (36) 1-2 Caleb Francis (57) 1-3 Geir Frigård (59) - A very good and surprisingly win, put KIL in a VERY good position before the return leg. They surprised the Swedes with attacking football from the start, and in the second half when the home side pressed forward, they relied on fast counter attacks.
