Match report ------------ - Stabæk won their first major trophy in Norwegian football, and also prevented Rosenborg from taking the double, after a very disciplined performance. The league champions had the better of both the play and the chances, but were unusually sloppy in the last third of the field. Also, Stabæk goalkeeper Olsen played a blinder and saved his side on several occations. His opposite number, Jamtfall, on the other hand made an unforced error which lead to the leading Stabæk goal in extra time, and probably decided the outcome of the game. When Icelandic striker Sigurdsson scored his second, almost straight from the kick-off in the second period of extra time, it was no way back for Rosenborg. Sigurdsson had already scored very early in the game, finishing off a nice throughball from Svindal Larsen. Rosenborg finally equalized from the penalty spot, after Mini was held back in the area. Rushfeldt scored once again, but apart from that moment he was usually invisible, very well tackled by the Stabæk defence. Stabæk will now represent Norway in either the last Cup Winners Cup (or the brand new UEFA Cup) in 1999/2000, whereas Rosenborg travel to Istanbul on Wednesday to meet Galatasaray. Based on the jaded performance in the cup final, the league champions will have a hard time getting something out of that game.
