IFK Göteborg (Sweden) - Rosenborg 2-3 (1-1) Att: 23682 0-1 Jahn Ivar Jakobsen (32) 1-1 Magnus Erlingmark (38) 2-1 Magnus Erlingmark (49) 2-2 Steffen Iversen (52) 2-3 Harald Brattbakk (64) Yellow card: Bent Skammelsrud, Rosenborg. - A very good away win for RBK, in what was probably one of their best games ever. The Swedes were overrun at times by fluid attacking football, and the working rate of the RBK midfield players was phenomenal. A very deserved win, and a victory for attacking football, even away from home. However, the defense of IFK was very suspect at times, and goalkeeper Ravelli was often very angry at the players in front of him. With this win Rosenborg must be considered the best team in Scandinavia, and in two weeks time, Milan are waiting at Lerkendal... ***** Rosenborg - Milan 1-4 (1-3) Att: 20 849 0-1 Marco Simone (6) 1-1 Trond Egil Soltvedt (16) 1-2 Simone (23) 1-3 Simone (25) 1-4 George Weah (56) Yellow card: Marcel Desailly, Alessandro Costacurta, Milan. - RBK were taught a lesson on Wednesday. A very good Milan side showed that the Norwegians still have a long way to go before they can really fight with the big clubs. The winning margin could easily have been much bigger, as Rosenborg were outplayed in every part of the field. The only players who showed some disrespect was Soltvedt and Jamtfall in goal. ***** Rosenborg - Porto 0-1 (0-0) Att: 20 400 0-1 Mario Jardel (90) Red card: Mini Jakobsen, Rosenborg. ***** Porto - Rosenborg 3-0 (2-0) Att: 25 000 1-0 Zlatko Zahovic (32) 2-0 Ljubinko Drulovic (41) 3-0 Artur (60) Yellow card: Paulinho Santos, Porto, Bjørn Otto Bragstad, Bjørn Tore Kvarme, Rosenborg. - Another defeat for Rosenborg, and this time nobody can argue that it was well deserved. With Milan beating IFK this means that Rosenborg now have to beat Milan in Milano in order to qualify for the quarterfinals, which certainly is far beyond them. The difference between the temas was striking, with the home teams taking their chances without playing up to their full potential. But they needn't to, as on the night too many of the RBK players seemed out of form after a long season. ***** Rosenborg - IFK Göteborg 1-0 (0-0) Att: 19 849 1-0 Bent Skammelsrud (pen. 66) Red card: Niklas Alexandersson (66), IFK Göteborg. - A well deserved win for Rosenborg in the "battle of Scandinavia". In fact the home side should have scored many more goals than on the one penalty they did, after Alexandersson handled on the line. Especially Brattbakk was missing a couple of sitters. RBK also won 15-1 in corners. With Milan drawing in Porto, all Rosenborg have to do is to win their last game in Milan, and they are through to the quarterfinals :-) ***** Milan - Rosenborg 1-2 (1-1) Att: 28 695 0-1 Harald Brattbakk (30) 1-1 Christophe Dugarry (45+1) 1-2 Vegard Heggem (70) Yellow card: Christophe Dugarry, Franco Baresi, Milan, Trond Egil Soltvedt, Steffen Iversen, Rosenborg. - This have to be one of the biggest upsets in the European cups for a long time. Although Milan played without Weah and Desailly, all the other stars were there: Baresi, Maldini, Savicevic, Boban, Baggio, Simone etc. Still, RBK managed to win, and not entirely unjustified either. In fact, Milan created very little, whereas RBK, after weathering the storm in the first quarter, raised their game and have some good chances apart from the goals too. They took the lead on a powerful shot from Brattbakk after the ball had bounced through the Milan defense. On the stroke of half time, Milan equalised quite unnecessary, and at that time it didn't look like RBK would have any chance. In the second half Simone hit the post, before Heggem exploited a terrible mistake by keeper Rossi and headed in the winner under pressure from both Maldini and Baresi. For the rest of the game Milan had to attack, but, oh boy, were they predictable. Long balls from defence to a central attacker was playing the game straight into the hands of RBK. Now, Rosenborg meet another Italian team, Juventus, in the quarterfinals. Could they surprise again, or is playing in March too early for a Norwegian team?
