Champions Cup, second preliminary round, first leg (12/8) ================================================== Rosenborg - Club Brugge (Belgium) 2-0 (0-0) Lerkendal stadion Att: 12 919 1-0 Sigurd Rushfeldt (61) 2-0 Bent Skammelsrud (81) Referee: Hugh Dallas, Scotland. Yellow card: Bjørn Otto Bragstad, Rosenborg, Gert Claessens, Eric Deflandre, Club Brugge. - An excellent second half was enough to give RBK a good chance of reaching the Champions Leage for the fourth successive year. Before the break the home side were stiffled by the Belgians, which had undoubtly done their home work. RBK hardly created an opportunity, instead Brugge twice came close to taking the lead. After the break, though, it was a very different story. Now, RBK created chance after chance, and the play was faster and more fluent, as one has been accustomed to in the last years. The reward was two well-taken goals. First, top scorer Rushfeldt prolonged an excellent through ball from Hoftun, and then Skammelsrud hit a screaming volley from just outside the area, after a corner clearance. The win should be enough to go through, at least if RBM manage to score an away goal in Brugge. Champions Cup, second preliminary round, second leg (26/8) =================================================== Club Brugge (Belgium) - Rosenborg 4-2 (1-1), agg. 4-4, Rosenborg on away goals Jan Breydel stadion Att: 10 000 1-0 Khalilou Fadiga (23) 1-1 Sigurd Rushfeldt (44) 2-1 Gert Claessens (46) 2-2 Rushfeldt (72) 3-2 Koen Schockoert (78) 4-2 Claessens (84) Referee: Urs Meier, Switzerland. Yellow card: Gert Claessens, Club Brugge, Christer Basma, Andreas Mayer, André Bergdølmo, Rosenborg. - Rosenborg made it to the Champions League for the fourth year in succession, but in the end it was a very close call. The Norwegians were saved by Rushfeldt's two excellent goals, as they conceded four themselves, which seemed somewhat unnecessary as RBK had drawn level on two occations. In the last minutes it was very chaotic, as another goal would have sent Brugge through, but 5 minutes into injury time the ref blew the final whistle, and RBK could start celebrating.
