CUP === Final: Fredrikstad - Sandefjord Fotball 3-0 Semifinals: Fredrikstad - Start 3-2 aet Rosenborg - Sandefjord Fotball 2-5 Quarterfinals: Follo - Sandefjord Fotball 0-1 Start - Lillestrøm 3-2 aet Viking - Rosenborg 1-3 Vålerenga - Fredrikstad 0-3 LEAGUE ====== PREMIER DIVISION After a disasterous season by their standard last year, Rosenborg recovered in 2006 and won the league for the 20th time. Undefeated in their last 12 games with 10 wins couldn't be matched by any opponent. Brann came closest after leading at the summer break undefeated after 11 games, but had a more modest run-in. Defending champion Vålerenga started very slowly, but finished strongly and pipped arch enemy Lillestrøm from the bronze position. The Canaries were in top three for virtually the whole season, so fourth place in the end was disappointing. Newcomer Stabæk finished fifth and scored the most goals lead by the league's two top scorers. Start started very badly, but managed to climb up to sixth. Lyn Oslo were in mid-table all season. At the bottom, Fredrikstad saved themselves yet again with some strong wins towards the end, and capped off the season by winning the cup final. Sandefjord, the big favourites to go down, surprised everybody by staying up and even reaching the cup final. Tromsø and Viking looked like relegation candidates all season, but were saved by a strong finish. Odd Grenland were looking for European qualification with 8 matches to go, but found themselves in the play-off after picking up a single point from those last matches. In the play-off, Bryne were no match, though, and Odd Grenland won 10-1 on aggregate. Down go Hamarkameratene after losing too many points towards the end, despite having a good goal difference. They were joined by Molde, which were too inconsistent to stay up. Aalesund are back in the top flight after their relegation last year. Strømsgodset last played in the premier divisjon in 2001. Bryne grabbed the play-off place but had no chance against Odd Grenland. At the bottom Hødd and Follo were in the relegation zone all season and could never recover. Manglerud Star faded towards the end and ended third from bottom. The last relegation spot went to Pors Grenland, after Løv-Ham secured a draw with two goals in the last ten minutes against league winner Strømsgodset. SECOND DIVISION Two of the relegated clubs from the first division last season, Skeid and Mandalskameratene, managed an immediate return to the second highest level after winning their respective groups with much ease. In the other two groups there were a three-way fight for the promotion place. Raufoss fended off Alta and Nybergsund and won promotion after their relegation from the first division two years ago. The last promotion place went to recently founded Notodden, which were last represented at second highest level by one of their founders, Snøgg, way back in 1967. Notodden won a close battle with Bærum and Lørenskog after winning the final game against the latter club.
